Mandala

Mandala was my entry for the 26th Ludum Dare (theme: minimalism). It is the first game I ever made, and its humble but visible reception has had a tremendous impact on me personally. It received a rating of 4.16 in the innovation category, landing it 23rd in that category (view results).

It was featured on rockpapershotgun.com in May of 2013 in a list of LD26 games selected by porpentine. It was also featured on freeindiegam.es, which is my favourite site for finding the kinds of games that I want to make. Needless to say, my delight was ripe fruit.

Mandala is also a platform for publishing text adventures that fade away the more people play them. The first game published with Mandala is still technically online, but all the content has long since faded away and for now it is now just a mess of non-breaking whitespace. Mostly.

My game session ended when I entered a room, all the exits to which had already eroded away.

A game that fades like sidewalk chalk.

This seems like a pretty strong example of a work outshining its creator’s stated intentions.

I really like this idea.
